Since 1917, Lions clubs around the world have worked to take care of the blind, visually impaired and others in need. The Lions are a service organization.
The Centennial Airport Lions Club was organized on 6/17/1964, and chartered on 11/19/1964 as the Stapleton International Airport Lions and when the new airport opened in 1995 as the Denver International Airport Lions. In 1997, the Club moved to Centennial Airport and adopted its current name. We believe in the importance of building community and serving those in need. The club participates in both fundraising and service projects.
Annual Fundraisers – The Lion Gil Utterback Charity Golf Tournament started in 2002 and is held the last week of August. The Friday Lunch cookouts at the Snack Shack started in 2001 and are held in the parking lot just west of the Centennial Airport Control Tower from mid-May through September each year. Both of these activities have allowed us to collect just over $20,000 yearly and we have been able to collect and donate over $400,000 to date.
Community Service Projects – The 9 Health Fair, Kidsight Screenings, Challenge Air for Kids, Food Baskets for needy families, eyeglass collections for redistribution, and the Lions Camp support. We also help fund glasses and/or eye surgery for those in need. We sponsor campers each year to the Lions Camp and the training of guide dogs and service dogs.
Grant and Donations – Each December, at our annual Holiday Charity Giveaway Party, we deliver grants and donations to the Lions Club International Foundation, Lions State Projects and many and varied related sight, veterans, and airport 501(c)(3) organizations.
Meetings – Our meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at noon in the Avalanche Grill on the second floor of the Family Sports Center at 6901 S. Peoria St., Centennial, CO 80112. Please join us!
